Latin American Vetiver Network – New Coordinator

Congratulations and thank you to Rafael Luque of Venezuela who has volunteered to coordinate this important Regional Network. Rafael has been involved with the Vetiver System for about 20 years and has a great depth of knowledge regarding its application. Please support him in his work, as we are sure that we can expect significant scaling up of the technology in the region. Here follows a message from him in both English and Spanish.

“Vetiverian Colleagues and Friends

 Receive an affectionate greeting for the New Year, together with my best wishes for you personally, and your family and professional well-being. Following a discussion with TVNI, I am pleased to inform you that as of this date, I will be assuming the role of Coordinator of the Latin American Vetiver Network (LAVN).

I am honored to have this responsibility and commit to it before TVNI, you and the Region; but I am also fully aware that I alone will not be able to fulfill my commitments. In this sense I hope to have your valuable collaboration, so that any support, project, or idea that you can offer me is highly welcomed.

 In line with the article I recently wrote about the UN Sustainable Development Goals, I propose, that with everyone’s help, to promote the dissemination of VS in the region in order to expand the existing information, particularly among farmers, agricultural extensionists, government entities, agencies related to agriculture and the environment, universities, mass media, and others. The goal is to promote the use of Vetiver in helping to achieve three of the UN SDGs: END OF POVERTY, ZERO HUNGER and GLOBAL WARMING

Reciban un afectuoso saludo de año nuevo, junto a mis mejores deseos por su bienestar personal, familiar y profesional. Siguiendo una discusión con TVNI, me complace comunicarles que a partir de la presente fecha, seré asumiendo el papel del Coordinador de la Red Latinoamericana de Vetiver (LAVN).

La responsabilidad asignada a mi persona me honra y compromete ante TVNI, Uds y la Región; pero estoy consciente de que no podré cumplir sólo mis compromisos, y en tal sentido espero su valiosa colaboración, de modo que todo apoyo, proyecto, o idea, que puedan ofrecerme, es bienvenido.

En sintonía con el artículo que escribí recién sobre los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la ONU, me propongo, con la ayuda de todos, potenciar la difusión del SV en la región, de modo de ampliar la información existente, particularmente entre agricultores, extensionistas agrícolas, entes gubernamentales, organismos relacionados con la agricultura y el medioambiente, Universidades, medios de comunicación masivos, y otros; en aras de apoyar tres de los ODS de la ONU en donde el vetiver tiene más potencialidades, vale decir: FIN DE LA POBREZA, HAMBRE CERO y CALENTAMIENTO GLOBAL
