Vetiver for Cattle Feed

Every now and then someone will tell me that vetiver cannot be fed to livestock.  This is not the case.  If vetiver is cut young it has a good nutrient value and is palatable.  This image was sent to me by Liyu Xu – China Vetiver Network Coordinator – showing vetiver being fed to young cattle in a new vetiver related poverty project in south China.  Goats and horses like to eat vetiver.

If vetiver is allowed to mature its nutrient value decreases significantly, at this stage the leaf can be cut for thatch, mulch, or fuel.  Its use depends on its management! What more can you ask from this plant!
