Vetiver Grass Technology (VGT) for Nematode Suppression and Soil Biological Recovery in Open Fields and Agroforestry Systems

Most farmers and planners think of vetiver hedges as a tool for soil and water conservation, but the same plant can be deployed as a biological engine for nematode suppression and soil recovery—in both open fields and food-forest systems. In food forests in India and Kenya, vetiver was used as the initial layer, with crops like black turmeric, ginger, pink pepper, and lemons planted into the improved soil matrix. Yields were high, drainage improved dramatically, and nematode-sensitive crops performed exceptionally well.… Read the rest “Vetiver Grass Technology (VGT) for Nematode Suppression and Soil Biological Recovery in Open Fields and Agroforestry Systems”

Vetiver System and its research and applications in China

This this book by the China Vetiver Network, edited by Liyu Xu, was published in 2003, has been issued as a second edition and contains useful data and information of vetiver research and applications at that time.

Training Manual – The Vetiver System

The Vetiver System Training Manual for Fiji (2020) created by Robinson Vanoh (UNDP GEF funded) For The Vetiver Network International in cooperation with The Ministry of Waterways and Environment, Fiji

The vetiver system a nature based solution (nbs) for mitigation of climate induced land and water problems applied on various sized farms. — focus — larger farms

Although mainly promoted for small farms, Vetiver Grass Technology can work well on large farms, and in many cases can be applied using both mechanical and manual methods.  See attached presentation.  Also more on design at: https://vetiver.org/vetiver-farm-design-applications-mulching-and-other-news-nl-2024-04/
